Hello world,
At the suggestion of my dear grandfather, I created this site to be a personal and professional public portal. Hopefully, it will be an ever-evolving way to share what is going on in my life, including my academic research in ecotheology, my spiritual writings, my photography, and my passions for food, agriculture, and natural places.
Originally from small town Florida, I am a graduate of Pomona College in California and am working on an M.Div. at Duke Divinity School. My current plan is to pursue a PhD in ecotheology focusing on how Christians can create and nourish ecological communities and sustainable food systems. I spent 2013-2014 in Sicily, Italy, working with the Anna Tasca Lanza Cooking School on a documentary film project on how local religious festivals encourage slow food cultures. (Check out the project here: http://sacredflavorsofsicilyfilm.weebly.com/).
Those who know me will attest to the fact that I have middle-aged hobbies, a strange fascination with goat farming, and a tendency towards idealism. I like Wendell Berry books, digging in garden dirt, taking long walks by myself to clear my mind, and making creative messes in kitchens. I adore and am totally reliant upon my family, friends, and my ever-faithful God. And I cling to the hope that with Christ's strength and wisdom, we can work to renew and redeem our fragile planet.
Blessings,
Lena
